The Residential Helpers assist drivers with servicing customers with the collection and hauling of waste or recycling materials to disposal site or recycling plant. Responsibilities Of Position Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers, in a safe and compliant way, by emptying trash/recycling containers into truck and hauling to disposal siteRoutinely enter/exit the truck approximately 300-600 times per day, depending on the assigned routeReplace trash/recycling receptacles neatly at the curb or designated areaClean up waste spills and overflowsWork with multiple drivers depending on workloadsOperate packing mechanism and various lever/handles on truck to activate lifting/loading mechanismAssist Driver in safely backing up the truck by directing the Driver from outside the truckAssist in maintaining cleanliness of truck as neededProfessionally interact with internal and external customers, providing excellent customer serviceManually load bulk items as neededPerform other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibility This position will not manage employees Skills & Abilities Needed For Position Ability to learn and understand truck mechanicsGood written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customersAdditional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of businessMust be able to read and speak English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, and safety training Experience & Knowledge Needed For Position Waste industry experience preferred Physical Requirements In a Regular Workday Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbsRarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbsContinuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditionsContinuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matterFrequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawlingFrequently climbing and/or balancingFrequently sitting/standing/walking Additional Working Conditions/Aspects Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areasExposure to residential and commercial wasteAbility to travel between offices, as requiredAbility to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as neededAbility to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidaysLegally eligible to work in the United StatesValid driver’s license (if applicable)Must successfully complete pre-employment testingMust be able to read and speak the English language This job description is intended to describe the general nature, complexity, and level of work to be performed by employees assigned to this position and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required.
