Curriculum Developer & Teacher Educator
About the role
Northwestern’s Center for Connected Learning (CCL) and the NetLogo Center, both founded by Professor Uri Wilensky from the Northwestern Schools of Education and Engineering, are seeking a full-time Curriculum Developer and Teacher Educator. This position is ideal for someone passionate about science and the future of science education.
Responsibilities
- Curriculum Development:
- Curriculum compiling, organizing, and updating: Enhancing existing curricula to make them widely available, including reformatting old curricula, updating figures, editing content, and organizing them on web pages.
- Curriculum creation and expansion: Identifying fruitful directions for further curricular development across various disciplines and creating new curricula, possibly in collaboration with other researchers or groups.
- Teacher Education:
- Developing teacher education programs: Creating innovative and scalable teacher education workshops to help teachers effectively integrate computational modeling into their classrooms using NetLogo.
- Running teacher education programs: Helping to run these workshops, likely primarily online, to improve them over time.
- School and Teacher Outreach:
- Outreach to schools to recruit teachers for teacher education programs.
- Miscellaneous:
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant field (natural science, social science, education, learning sciences, etc.) OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- Strong interest in designing educational materials and/or experiences.
- Minimum Competencies:
- Passion for science and interest in how computational tools can transform scientific practice and education.
- Science content knowledge and excitement to learn more.
- Excitement to learn agent-based modeling using NetLogo.
- Passion for learning and education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (masters or PhD) in relevant field (natural science, social science, education, learning sciences, etc.).
- Significant experience teaching science, social studies, or math.
- Significant experience developing instructional materials.
- Experience with designing educational technology or web-based learning tools.
- Experience running educational workshops.
- Experience working with teachers in schools.
- Experience with K-12 school outreach or teacher recruitment.
- Preferred Competencies:
- Experience with computational thinking, computer science education, or simulation/modeling in educational contexts.
- Experience with coding.
- Knowledge of NetLogo or other agent-based modeling tools.
- Familiarity with NGSS or other standards frameworks.

Pay and Schedule
The target hiring range for this position is between $70,000 - $80,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
