About the role
The Curator-Exhibit Manager will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and volunteers in guiding ongoing inventory efforts and continued implementation of collections-related policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and volunteers in guiding ongoing inventory efforts and continued implementation of collections-related policies and procedures.
- Be ultimately responsible for maintaining professional standards in the documentation, preservation and accessibility of the CHS collection and for the development, curation, preparation and installation of museum exhibitions that tell stories of our maritime/island communities.
- Handle exhibit documentation (loan requests, image permission and agreements), maintain project budgets, and lead exhibit installations and de-installations.
- Help set collections priorities and guide ongoing collections care and interpretation for future exhibits.
- Apply for exhibit grant applications and set goals for a 5-year Exhibit Plan.
- Set preservation goals and prioritize space and storage requirements.
- Supervise CHS’s Past Perfect database, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and security.
Qualifications
- A minimum of two years experience with curatorial and exhibit work in museums.
- Knowledge of archival management and best practices is essential.
- A collaborative working style, strong problem-solving skills, and excellent time-management are required.
- Experience with PastPerfect is required.
- Facility with MAC computer is necessary.
- Experience with photographic collections, paper records, multi-media, and knowledge of meta data management is preferred.
Pay and Schedule
This position is from late August through early October, 2022, with potential renewal in 2023. The pay rate is $25 per hour. Furnished housing is provided on-island during the work period.
