About the role

The Chandler Museum and City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Museum Education and Public Programs Coordinator. The position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday with regular weekend work on both Saturdays and Sundays, never more than every other weekend.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, develop program curricula and learning goals for all public facing (pre-k, child, family and adult) programs, at all museum facilities including: the Chandler Museum, the McCullough-Price House, the Vision Gallery, the Gallery at the CCA, and Tumbleweed Ranch
  • Conceptualize, plan, and execute educational activities, including school group visits, summer camps, workshops, and public programs that align with museum exhibitions
  • Develop and oversee field trip programs for all museum facilities in conjunction with local school district representatives
  • Oversee the development of interactive aspects of exhibitions (e.g., interpretive materials) and ensure programs align with educational goals
  • Analyze visitor feedback and program effectiveness to report findings to stakeholders and improve future programs
  • Manage, train, and schedule education staff, educators, docents, and interns, including hiring and conducting performance evaluations

Requirements

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Standard museum operating procedures including exhibit planning, development and implementation as well as proper methods of storing, cleaning and processing a variety of specimens or artifacts; collections management practices. Develop and implement educational programming for both children and adults; knowledge and appreciation for City history; marketing strategies and public relations; English grammar, spelling and punctuation; fundraising and preparation of grant applications. Understand and abide by Federal OSHA, State and County regulations and city policies regarding risk management and safe work practices. Demonstrate supervisory skill and performance evaluation; use logical and creative though processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions; coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously; operate a personal computer and related software or programs. Operate a motor vehicle and abide by traffic laws and rules. Follow and generate oral and written instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Present a positive public image and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in museum studies, Education, Social Science, Public History or related field; and three (3) years of experience within a museum setting; three (3) years of experience in education and programming within a museum setting; and a valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
