Responsibilities
- Plan and teach hands-on, career-focused classes in food science, nutrition, and culinary arts
- Help students understand real-life topics such as healthy living, food preparation, and managing daily responsibilities
- Create and maintain a well-managed classroom and kitchen/lab environment
- Maintain student progress and adjust lessons to meet different learning needs
- Support student participation in Career and Technical Education (CTE) organizations and competitions
- Organize and participate in field trips to colleges, workplaces, and training programs
- Help develop and promote innovative career and technical education programs
- Build partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to support student learning opportunities
Qualifications
- Must have or be eligible for a North Carolina Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching license
- Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, or a Postsecondary Culinary Arts Certificate in a related field such as: Family and Consumer Sciences, Culinary Arts or Food Service Management, Nutrition or Food Science, Family and Community Services, Hospitality & Tourism Management
- 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, 4 years with an Associate's degree, 6 years with a Culinary Arts certificate
- Examples of relevant experience include: Chef, restaurant manager, or catering manager, Cafeteria or food service manager, Dietitian or nutritionist, Hospitality manager, Food scientist or extension specialist, Teacher or adult education instructor, Community health educator or social services professional
- A Food Protection Manager Certification (ANSI-CFP) is required before teaching courses involving food preparation
