About the role

This is an on-call position that provides substitute instruction for Career Technical Trade (CTT) programs on an as-needed basis. The instructor is responsible for all aspects of student instruction and learning experience, ensuring rigor and relevance in the subjects taught, and collaborating with academic instructors to deliver applied academics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-call/substitute services as a Career Technical Trade Instructor.
  • Teach the basic principles and concepts of vocational skills to students.
  • Maintain a high degree of discipline within the classroom to ensure maximum learning and effective classroom management.
  • Collaborate with academic instructors in coordinating curriculum development and delivering applied academics.
  • Utilize all available curricular resources on Center.
  • Ensure adequate classroom preparation.
  • Work toward meeting performance management goals established by the company and the National Director of Job Corps via OMS and CTT Report Cards.
  • Provide instruction and remedial training support to help students overcome barriers in obtaining industry certifications or participating in Advanced Training (AT) or Advanced Career Training (ACT).
  • Maintain proper documentation of student personal folders, including test scores, evaluations, attendance, incident reports, achievement awards, and other pertinent information.
  • Record and forward daily attendance to the Records Department.
  • Assist in completing students' resumes.
  • Provide contextual learning opportunities for students to improve academic skills in the CTT learning environment.
  • Work closely with the Center Director's designee for disability issues to ensure reasonable accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities.
  • Teach students the importance of attaining and applying career success and applied academic standards listed in each Training Achievement Record (TAR).
  • Update eTARs weekly to credit student skill attainment.
  • Tailor instructional methods and expected rates of progress to the learning styles, abilities, and career goals of individual students.
  • Comply with all state regulations related to testing and certification.
  • Intervene and correct inappropriate student behavior and nonperformance.
  • Develop year-round job-shadowing opportunities with community, industry, and employers to enhance students' education and career technical skills training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Computer literacy with basic functions, email, internet, and programs such as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to perform major duties in the trade of instruction and current knowledge of the subject area.
  • High level of communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to motivate, inspire, and train students effectively.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in the trade of instruction.
  • One year of teaching experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Certified, licensed, or accredited in the state where the Center is located, or accredited by a professional trade organization. For NTC, instructors must be certified by a union or trade organization, or by a national trade certifying organization (RO may waive if the Center is unable to hire certified or licensed instructors, but candidates must pursue certification).
