CT Technologist, Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete pre-scan quality control measures on equipment, and perform safety screenings/evaluations of all imaging participants for contraindications prior to scanning
  • Perform quality control of CT images and related documentation in a technical and research-intensive environment
  • Execute imaging scans according to research protocols and manage incidental findings in coordination with the Medical Director and Principal Investigators
  • Address research participant concerns, ensuring participant safety and comfort during scans
  • Ensure that the CT rooms are kept clean, organized, and safe at all times
  • Communicate with scanner manufacturer on troubleshooting as needed
  • Aid in CT Sequencing, imaging data management, and segmentation of images from CT investigations, including documentation and reporting of results
  • Obtain participant vascular access and participate in other operational tasks within the CT suite as needed
  • Work with departmental leadership to ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance, including maintaining appropriate training, licensure and certification
  • Cook with staff and departmental leadership to streamline research workflow and operational efficiency
  • Perform quality assurance procedures and implement process improvement changes as required
  • Serve as a member of the Imaging Safety Committee

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage several competing assignments simultaneously
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to practice principles of radiation safety to minimize risk to research participants, self, and others
  • Proven ability to work independently and to manage several competing assignments simultaneously

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
  • Associate's degree in radiologic technology or related field from an accredited program recognized by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT)
  • Current RT(CT) Certification by American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT)
  • Current Radiologic Technologist state license with the Virginia Board of Medicine
  • Must be able to work around ionizing radiation
  • Current CPR certification
  • Considerable knowledge of CT policy and procedures, as well as the ability to interpret and apply information to daily work
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to practice principles of radiation safety to minimize risk to research participants, self, and others
  • Proven ability to work independently and to manage several competing assignments simultaneously
