About the role

Provide diagnostic Computed Tomography (CT) services to inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients under the direction of the supervising radiologist in accordance with established operating procedures and clinical protocols. Deliver safe, prompt, efficient, and cost-effective CT services.

Responsibilities

  • Position patients correctly using proper immobilization techniques.
  • Perform optimal scans using correct technical factors, shielding, and protocols based on patient diagnosis, history, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Use correct technical factors in accordance with the American College of Radiology (ACR) to minimize radiation exposure while ensuring diagnostic quality.
  • Perform CT angiography, 3D imaging, MIPS, VR, vessel analysis, and MPRs; post-process computer data to enhance exams for radiologist interpretation using appropriate reconstruction software.
  • Follow CT Department Technologist workflow: select correct scan room, identify and document two forms of patient identification, acquire history, verify orders, scan patient, send images to PACS, scan all paperwork and data sheets, complete the case in Meditech, address QA issues, charge for contrast media and supplies.
  • Verify all images, series, and data sheets are sent to PACS; ensure correct number of images; archive images on the scanner.
  • Operate support equipment for CT, including independent workstations, pressure injectors, PACS, and EPIC systems.
  • Initiate IVs for administration of contrast media in accordance with department policy and standard precautions.
  • Prepare patients for exams by explaining procedures, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
  • Transport patients to and from departments as necessary; assist in transferring patients on and off the CT table; monitor patient condition during procedures.
  • Collaborate with radiologists to tailor protocols to meet patient exam requirements.
  • Refer difficult complaints or sensitive issues to department management.
  • Document and charge for supplies used during exams or procedures.
  • Document confidential patient history to ensure appropriateness of exam and contrast media.
  • Document patient charge data; modify and initiate charges as procedure modifications are made per radiologist or ordering physician.
  • Document allergic reactions, IV extravasations, or unusual occurrences; initiate incident reports for staff or patient situations.
  • Maintain licensure and continuing education; administer contrast media after proper patient screening.
  • Ensure the correct exam is administered; consult providers as needed.

Requirements

  • Registered in Computed Tomography (CT) within 1 year (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days (American Heart Association - AHA).
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiography (Illinois Emergency Management Agency - IEMA).
  • Registered in Radiography (R) (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT).
  • Certificate of Completion in Radiologic Technology or college diploma in a related field.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $35.50 per hour to $61.06 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
