About the role

Performs diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose. Rotates through diagnostic radiology as assigned. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
  • Documents any variations from protocol due to patient’s condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
  • Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes.
  • Transports and assists patients as needed.
  • Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
  • Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient’s, visitors, and staff at all times.
  • Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs.
  • Participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/ healthcare errors and abuse.
  • Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
  • Performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
  • If applicable, performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician.
  • Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
  • Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
  • Administers IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
  • Utilizes PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
  • Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology PA: No state license is required WV: Radiological Technologist OR Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

Skills

  • Knowledge of growth and development, understanding of the patient’s needs and scope of treatment.
  • Understands the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical and discharge planning needs.
  • Knowledge of total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties throughout the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis; exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal range.

Working Environment

  • Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, explosive gases, cleaning agents, and disinfectants on a daily basis.
  • Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions.
  • Exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.
