About the role

Performs routine diagnostic & special CT/radiology service as ordered, providing care and treatment to patients. Assists radiologist and physicians when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for radiographic examinations; explains procedures prior to testing and answers patient questions relating to ordered exam.
  • Positions patients properly according to type of protocol examinations; selects proper equipment and supplies for patients and provides radiation protection during examinations.
  • Follows established protocols and post processing procedures.
  • Is responsible for reporting any equipment that is not in proper working condition to the director or manager so they can call for service.
  • Maintains supplies in clean and sterile conditions; transports contaminated instruments and devices to Central Processing for proper sterilization.
  • Instructs and cross-trains new technicians in proper methods and procedures regarding routine diagnostic exams performed in the Radiology department.
  • Performs sterile and isolation techniques; follows all OSHA standards.
  • Performs various routine exams and procedures established by radiologists.
  • Maintains continuing education on procedures and techniques in order to perform examinations of high quality.
  • Complies with the advanced certification requirements and is registered in CT. Follows ALARA. This will be reviewed on a yearly bases.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition to prevent spread of infection or disease to patients, visitors and personnel.
  • Properly assesses patient information on electronic medical record system.
  • Charges, changes, adds information as necessary to keep records accurate. Can assess patient lab records, etc as needed through system.
  • Logs off after using computer and is also responsible for verifying pre-certification of insurance for procedures that require it.
  • Ensures all completed images are on PACS.

Requirements

  • Radiological Technologist license through the West Virginia Board of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Registered in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Registered in Computed Tomography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • CPR certification.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year of imaging experience.
  • Nine (9) months of computed tomography experience.

Skills

  • Knowledge of growth and development, understanding of the patient’s needs and scope of treatment.
  • Understands the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical and discharge planning needs.
  • Knowledge of total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.
