Job Responsibilities
The Child Support Services County Attorney III is responsible for:
- The preparation of Child Support Cases for Family Court;
- Performance of activities in Court;
- The follow-up on these cases, including parent locate and processing of interstate cases;
- Providing general child support services to clients as required or needed;
- Representing out-of-state petitioners in reciprocal support suits and monitoring outgoing UIFSA cases;
- Negotiating complex settlement of Child Support cases with opposing counsel;
- Preparing and monitoring pleadings and preparation of cases for judicial hearings;
- Responsible for trial of cases and appearance at Court or other judicial hearings;
- Assisting in coordinating at county level interrelationship between CSSD and Family Court personnel;
- Handling appeals resulting from child support cases;
- Ensuring positive or appropriate customer service delivery to clients, the public, and co-workers as an integral requirement;
- Ensuring proper use, access, and safeguarding of systems, equipment, and data;
- Aiding in training new attorneys and case managers.
Requirements
Necessary Special Requirement: Must be a member of the SC BAR.
Experience As a DSS Attorney Preferred.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- A Juris Doctor Degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- The employee must be able to communicate effectively (written and orally) and write legibly.
- May be required to work after hours and/or some overnight travel and must be able to lift approximately 15-20 lbs.
