About the role

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt roller machine.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently by following patterns to smooth material from paver to proper depths.
  • Understand preparatory work required, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.
  • Responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment, including minor servicing and maintenance or referring major problems to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with the job.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings, reviewing safety and risk assessment, daily production goals, and crew member responsibilities.
  • Identify, locate, mark, and communicate overhead hazards with others on the crew and truck drivers.
  • Locate, identify, and mark project-specific hazards.
  • Understand procedures in the event of an incident.
  • Conduct documented task training prior to equipment use.
  • Travel from interstate highways to rural dirt roads across various locations.
  • May assist Laborer at various job sites as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Previous heavy equipment operation experience or training is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.
  • Valid Driver’s License is preferred.
