CROSSING GUARD Qualifications Minimum education of a high school diploma or its equivalent is requiredMust possess a valid Missouri State operator's licenseMust be able to pass a criminal background checkMust be able to carry approximately twenty (20) pounds a distance of fifty (50) yardsMust able to speak clearly and communicate with children and adultsMust be familiar with a personal computerSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate or acceptable Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-exempt $15.00 Reports to: Director of Public Safety Job Goal: To safely guide students and parents across designated crosswalks at assigned schools. Teach younger students how to make safe decisions when it comes to crossing the street. Performance Responsibilities Assure traffic has stopped in both directions on two lane city streets in front of designated schools in all types of weather conditionsLearn to identify safe gaps on a two lane city street, so that children can cross the street safelyObserve and report any safety hazards or suspicious activity to the building principal and Director of Public SafetyDemonstrate dependability by being on timeDisplay a good attitude, work ethic and ability to make good decisions regarding controlling traffic and the safety of childrenAbility to focus on duties amid numerous distractionsPleasant, outgoing personalityComplete other duties as defined and assigned Terms Of Employment The crossing guard will be employed for a nine (9) month position. The crossing guard may be asked to perform duties during summer school if their school is hosting or may be able to work another assignment if available. The salary and the work year will be established by the Board of Education. Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy by the immediate supervisor, utilizing the Independence School District Crossing Guard Performance Based Evaluation.
