Crossing Guard

About the role

Provides for the safe crossing of students and pedestrians at designated crosswalks before and after school. Ensures traffic safety and promotes a secure environment for students traveling to and from school.

Responsibilities

• Ensure crosswalks are safe and clear prior to escorting students across the roadway.
• Assist students and pedestrians in crossing streets safely.
• Monitor traffic and use appropriate safety procedures to control vehicle flow as needed.
• Maintain a visible and alert presence at assigned crossing locations.
• Communicate in a friendly and professional manner with students, parents, staff, and community members.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• No prior experience required; training will be provided.
• Ability to read and understand instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults.
• Ability to use sound judgment in any situation.
• Ability to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and respond appropriately to communication received.
• Must observe district policies, including non-smoking policy.
• Able to maintain 95% attendance for assigned responsibilities.

Environmental & Physical Conditions

• Primarily outdoor working conditions with exposure to extreme environmental conditions.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather.
• The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.

Schedule

Part-time, 4 hours per day, 10-month contract.
