About the Role

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) practice under the supervision of an anesthesiologist. They provide anesthesia-related care according to their licensure, certification, and expertise.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including diagnostic studies.
• Select, obtain, order, or administer pre-anesthetic medications or fluids, and obtain informed consent for anesthesia.
• Develop and implement an anesthesia plan.
• Select and initiate the planned anesthetic technique, which may include general, regional, and local anesthesia, and intravenous sedation.
• Select, obtain, or administer the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, fluids, and blood products necessary to manage the anesthetic and correct abnormal responses to anesthesia or surgery.
• Select, apply, or insert appropriate non-invasive monitoring modalities for collecting and interpreting patient physiologic data.
• Under anesthesia, manage a patient’s airway and pulmonary status using endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacologic support, respiratory therapy, or extubation.
• Manage emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering medications, fluids, or ventilator support to maintain homeostasis, provide relief from pain and anesthesia side effects, or prevent/manage complications.
• Provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care related to anesthesia side effects or complications.
• Initiate or modify pain relief therapy through the use of drugs, regional anesthetic techniques, or other accepted pain relief modalities.
• Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering emergency fluids or drugs, and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.

Pay

$175–$220 per hour
