CRLS Freshman Academy Principal (July 2026)

About the role

The Freshman Academy Principal will support the 4-week summer learning school program by:

  • maintaining communication with the upper schools about the students
  • maintaining communication with the Office of Student Services Department at CRLS to assist student transition
  • maintaining communication with the Mayor Youth Summer Employment Program (MYSEP) to meet MYSEP worksite requirements
  • applying comprehensive statistical data analysis to inform curricular and placement instructions for the fall
  • assisting teachers with curriculum development and alignment
  • establishing/maintaining communication with parents to help the success in the program and the transition to high school
  • maintaining the standards of the program
  • coordinating the finances for the program
  • maintaining a connection with the students after they leave the program and enter the high school and actively promoting student success through mentoring and guidance
  • debriefing the program with the Deans and Guidance Department to provide insight about the Incoming freshmen
  • coordinating field trips to local colleges and other educational facilities
  • connecting with CRLS coaches and athletic staff to help students connect with the sports teams at CRLS
  • researching best practices for summer intervention programs, student connectedness literature, science learner identity literature and applying research findings to the program.
  • continuing to provide support to the students involved in the program through the 2026-2027 school year.
  • developing and overseeing a program that will support incoming Freshmen students to strengthen their learning.
  • directly supervising staff, including weekly group/staff check-ins and one-to-one support as needed.
  • working with classroom teachers and appropriate support staff (e.g., content area teachers, counselors) and Upper School/CRLS family liaisons to encourage students to participate in the hybrid programming.
  • leading ongoing communication with families, with the support of the school administrator.
  • Social skills instruction will be based on SEL curriculum ideas aligned with the Falcon Block model embedded within each Learning Community.
  • supporting staff in addressing day-to-day needs, including supporting staff in addressing student behavioral issues and engagement.
  • maintaining all records, including daily student attendance and follow-up as needed; keeping accurate time sheets; and producing payment vouchers.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements: Masters Degree and experience working with high school students in academic support/youth development settings. CRLS staff member preferred.

Pay

Service agreement to be paid at summer school principal rate of $60/hour. Not to exceed $12,000 (200 hours total).

Schedule

Length of Contract: July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026
