Responsibilities
- Install and repair refrigeration equipment across campus.
- Respond to alarming equipment, diagnose problems, and make recommendations for repair.
- Analyze machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem and repair machine.
- Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Open valves on equipment such as compressors, pumps, and condensers to prepare system for operation and start equipment and auxiliary machinery.
- Observe temperature, pressure, and ampere readings for systems and equipment and adjust controls or override automatic controls to obtain specified operation of equipment.
- Make periodic inspections of equipment and systems.
- Assess need for repair or adjustment.
- Clean condenser coils and replace worn or defective parts as required.
- Operate cutting torch and gas welding equipment.
- Have clear understanding of refrigeration theory and be able to read one-line electrical diagrams.
Qualifications
- Current Grade III City of Seattle Boiler Operator License or ability to obtain within 24 months.
- CFC Universal certification.
- City of Seattle Refrigeration Mechanic license preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
- Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Physical skills necessary to climb, bend, stoop, lift and perform tasks utilizing ladders and scaffolds, etc. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Dependable, on-time and proven good work habits.
- Good communications skills.
- Able to work a varied schedule including shift work.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
