Critical Operating Engineer-1

About the Role

This position involves operating, inspecting, and maintaining all HVAC, mechanical, CRAC/CRAH, electrical, plumbing, and related systems in critical environments—facilities where system or procedure failures could result in unacceptable consequences for stakeholders. The role ensures equipment is maintained for energy efficiency, safety, and minimal downtime, while keeping records of past operating experiences to anticipate necessary repairs. Responsibilities also include inspecting and repairing interior and exterior property areas, such as walls, flooring, installed fixtures, roofing systems, and lighting.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations, BAS, or EPMS monitoring & control systems) while being multi-skilled in others to complete daily and weekly work assignments.
• Perform ongoing preventive and repair response work orders on facility mechanical, electrical, and other installed systems, equipment, and components using critical environment protocols and MOP processes.
• Maintain, operate, and repair all HVAC systems, CRAC units, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, and building interiors/exteriors as assigned.
• Study and become familiar with critical environment equipment, including building automation systems, fire/life safety systems, and other building-related equipment.
• Conduct facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on conditions that may impact client occupancy and operations.
• Complete hazard assessments as necessary and comply with all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and safety in work areas.
• Identify and propose methods to eliminate safety hazards, ensuring compliance with state, county, or city ordinances, codes, or laws.
• Complete all required safety trainings as scheduled.
• Update work order status in real time using CMMS systems such as Corrigo.
• Escalate problems or issues to customers and managers in a timely manner.
• Attend work and safety meetings as required.

Physical Work Requirements and Conditions

• Lifting up to 80 lbs.
• Working from heights, including climbing ladders up to 30 feet with a 300 lb weight limit while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.
• Frequent climbing, bending, lifting, kneeling, stooping, and working/extending overhead.
• Working in adverse conditions (e.g., extreme cold or heat).
• Driving for long periods of time.
• Availability for call-in work and other duties as required.

Requirements

• 3+ years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering, with a strong background in packaged HVAC, plumbing, electrical, equipment repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of overall system design and applications.
• Experience working in data centers or raised-floor environments.
• Universal EPA 608 Certification (or within 90 days of employment).
• CRAC/CRAH maintenance and repair experience.
• Licenses as required by authority having jurisdiction.
• Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel.
• Two years of trades school or documented apprenticeship in electrical systems, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, or other craft skills.
