About the Role

Provides for safety aspects of patient care, including assisting with patient restraints, using correct transfer techniques, following falls precautions, and responding appropriately to emergency situations. Delivers personal care such as bathing, mouth care, evening care, and incontinence care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Applies basic dressings, slings, splints, anti-embolism, and sequential pressure stockings under RN supervision.
  • Collects specimens (stool, urine, sputum) in a timely manner and empties/cleans ostomy and other device bags efficiently.
  • Records accurate intake and output per unit standards.
  • Supports patient nutrition by feeding, monitoring tube feedings, delivering nourishment, and counting calories accurately.
  • Makes pertinent patient observations, documents findings in records, and reports to the RN.
  • Assists with post-mortem care and CPR under RN or physician supervision.
  • Performs phlebotomy, stocks phlebotomy/IV trays, conducts glucometer testing, and performs EKGs after competency attainment.
  • Takes accurate vital signs and pulse oximetry.
  • Stocks supplies and maintains a clean, organized environment.
  • Adapts to changing department needs and performs other assigned duties.
  • Maintains patient and medication refrigerator logs.
  • Checks and signs Unit Code Cart(s) for operational performance each shift.
  • Notifies clinical equipment and charge nurse of malfunctioning defibrillators promptly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • One year of prior experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA in acute care, or equivalent skill in long-term care; completion of a medical assistant program; or successful completion of two clinical semesters of an accredited nursing school.
  • AHA BLS certification (must obtain before the end of the orientation period if not already certified).
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written.
  • Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred. In lieu of CNA certification, successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.

  • Occasional physical demands: Climbing (e.g., stairs), wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor activities, keyboard use/repetitive motion.
  • Continuous physical demands: Talking or hearing.
  • Lifting requirements: Floor to waist up to 80 lbs; waist level and above up to 85 lbs.
  • Sensory requirements: Very accurate near/far vision (20/40), color discrimination, accurate depth perception, and hearing.
  • Anticipated occupational exposure risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, uneven surfaces/elevations, extreme noise levels, dust/particulate matter.

Pay

The pay range for this full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position is $18.57 - $23.23 per hour. Actual compensation may differ based on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

Schedule

Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Usual workday: 8 hours.
