Essential Job Functions and Core Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the Charge RN for daily work assignment and to the Nursing Manager/Director for overall work performance.
  • Affords assistance to the RN in turning, positioning, and ambulating patients. Prepares patients for examinations. Assists the RN in setting up equipment and trays for emergency procedures.
  • Affirms patient privacy at all times.
  • Utilizes the Central Line Necessity stamp to ensure compliance with infection control standards.
  • Engages in continuous professional development and practice.
  • Correctly interprets cardiac rhythms, reviews and validates alarms, and communicates significant rhythm changes to the RN.
  • Accurately uses the patient charge system, stamps patient charge cards daily, and ensures all emergency trays, carts, and supplies are charged.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and fosters unity and teamwork among coworkers by promoting a positive working relationship.
  • Collaborates with the Lead/charge RN to coordinate patient room assignments, keeps logs complete and updated, and organizes supplies.
  • Maintains availability of supplies, oxygen tanks, emergency supplies, and keeps inventory of essential equipment and instruments organized and clutter-free.
  • Performs 12-Lead EKG competently and timely, ensuring accurate lead placement and following equipment usage standards, policy, and procedures. Sends tracing to Cardio-Diagnostic and places copies in patient charts. Explains procedures to the patient.
  • Responds to unit Code Blue situations, performs CPR as needed.
  • Participates in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, and other quality improvement activities.
  • Organizes, stocks, and sets up patient rooms. Obtains appropriate equipment for various admissions.
  • Supports the unit team by maintaining a positive attitude and fostering unity and teamwork among coworkers.
  • Transports patients for admission, procedure, and discharge using gurneys or wheelchairs. Transports medications as requested by the nursing staff.
  • Under the supervision of the RN, accurately transcribes physician orders in a timely manner. Enters orders in the computer system, prints and files reports as required.

Job Requirements

  • Education:
    • Minimum (Required): High School or GED

  • Experience:
    • Minimum (Required): Minimum of one-year recent experience in an acute care hospital.
    • Preferred (Not required): Not specified
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Minimum (Required): Basic Arrhythmia Certification.
    • Preferred (Not required): BLS certification.
