About the role

Our mission in Aiken is to provide “better” in every sense—better healthcare, better teamwork, and a lasting impact on the community we proudly serve. Aiken Regional Medical Centers is a 273‑licensed‑bed acute care hospital, primary stroke center, and community‑based teaching hospital offering a comprehensive range of specialties and services. The ICU is a 20‑bed closed unit (med/surg/cardiac surgery) staffed with one intensivist from 7 am–7 pm; nights are covered by TeleICU (day‑shift only role). An Internal Medicine residency program places residents in the ICU during the day. Hospital administration is phenomenal, with the CEO advocating for the hospital and partnering with the critical care program; EM and HM services are also through Sound, creating a tight‑knit group. The team collaborates closely with other departments for smooth transitions of care and participates in committees such as stroke, sepsis, and practice guidelines. Aiken, South Carolina—named the South's Best Small Town in 2018 by Southern Living Magazine—offers an equestrian tradition, ideal climate, excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, outdoor recreation, oak‑tree‑lined streets, and a vibrant downtown with restaurants, shops, and galleries. Nearby Augusta, GA (≈30 min) provides metro amenities and the Masters Tournament; Columbia, SC (≈1 hr) and its suburbs (e.g., Lexington) are also accessible, as are the Blue Ridge Mountains and low‑country beaches of Charleston and Savannah.
