Critical Care Nurse Practitioner

Responsibilities

• Provide coverage for critically ill adult ICU patients (acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, cardiogenic shock, NSTEMI/STEMI, cardiac arrest, acute, ischemic stroke, sepsis, etc.).
• Perform comprehensive assessments, develop differential diagnosis, and implement treatment plans.
• Manage mechanical ventilation in collaboration with respiratory therapy.
• Cookbook admissions, transfers, and discharges from the ICU.
• Participate in goals-of-care discussions and family communication when appropriate.
• Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice and credentialing, including Central venous catheter placement, Arterial line placement, Temporary hemodialysis catheter placement, and Endotracheal intubation.
• Anesthesia support for airways is available as needed.
• Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and handoff communication.
• Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives as appropriate.
• Facilitate ICU admissions from the emergency department, hospitalist services, and outside facilities.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience as an independent provider in the ICU (with procedure logs).
• Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
• Active Virginia license and DEA preferred.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Scheduling

ICU coverage is comprised of two 12-hour day physicians, one 12-hour day APP and one 12-hour nocturnist Critical Care APP and one night physician. Average of 14 shifts per month, a mix of days and nights, modified block schedule.
