CRITICAL CARE INTENSIVIST

Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, team-based anesthesia and critical care in surgical and cardiovascular intensive care units.

Serve as an integral member of a multidisciplinary care team, collaborating with physicians, APPs, nurses, and allied health professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Actively participate in the academic mission of the Department and the Carver College of Medicine, including teaching, mentoring, and curriculum development.

Supervise and provide formative developmental feedback to medical students, residents, fellows, SRNAs, and non-anesthesia rotators in both clinical and academic settings (verbally and in writing).

Prepare and deliver educational content, including lectures, case discussions, and simulation-based learning.

Demonstrate experience in promoting a team-based work environment.

Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives (optional but encouraged).

Requirements

• Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Iowa.
• Candidates must be board-certified in Critical Care (or non-US Board equivalent) or be in the certification process (pending completion of residency or fellowship).
• On occasion, individuals trained outside of the United States who are certified by an equivalent national certification group may be considered.
• Certification: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
• Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine.
• Successful completion of an approved residency program in either Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Neurology, and Surgery and subspecialties.

Desirable Qualifications

• Interest and/or experience in teaching, clinical research, or quality improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative work and academic environment.
