The initial compensation for this position ranges from $47.72 - $56.98 per hour, depending on experience, location, and internal equity considerations.

About the role

CSU is a 23hr 59min unit for adults 18+ who require intensive stabilization services. The goal is to divert from 5150 and psychiatric hospital stays. We are looking for compassionate and collaborative team members to help launch our new Nevada County CSU to provide strengths-based, culturally respectful, and trauma-informed stabilization support services.

The Crisis Registered Nurse monitors the health of children and youth and assures physician orders are followed. Completes general health assessments, assures medications are properly and safely ordered, administered and stored, maintains vital information in charts and reports.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, schedules, and oversees all pediatric medical treatment of youth within residential cottage programs.
• Admits and discharges youth from units, including completing Health Assessments using body charts, monthly vital signs, physical assessments, and determines physiological status.
• Monitors and implements the systems of care delivery for pediatric nursing/medical activities and pharmacological care.
• Schedules medical, dental, and laboratory appointments considering medical requirements, residential care, and transportation schedules.
• Schedules external psychiatric appointments and follow-up as delegated by attending psychiatrist.
• Follows MD orders, overseeing, evaluating, and implementing all activities and functions around ordering, monitoring, documenting, and handling of medications.
• Monitors youth for potential medication side effects.
• Maintains and manages medical and psychiatric records in an organized and timely manner to meet standards of care, accreditation, licensing requirements, and patient care needs.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, organizes and provides staff, parent, and child education regarding health, safety, pediatric, psychiatric, and medication issues.
• Available on an on-call basis after hours and on weekends to respond to special needs of youth, including psychiatric emergencies with appropriate intervention.
• Conducts classes for cottage/milieu staff to safely assist youth with the self-administration of medication.
• Attends committees, team, and staff meetings.
• Assists in the implementation of Infection Control Program.
• Performs other related responsibilities, including various quality assurance functions, as assigned, or other duties to support specific department/business needs.

Requirements

• Associate of Arts/Science (A.A./A.S.) in nursing and two (2) years of nursing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience (two years of relevant experience equals one year of education).
• Current licensure in California.

Physical Requirements

• Must remain physically fit enough to keep clients self-safe.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell.
• Ability to move quickly/run and drive a car.
• Must pass an initial physical abilities test (PATS) and be certified in crisis intervention techniques within the first 30 days and annually.
• If employed at a Crisis Stabilization Unit, must perform and pass a Human Performance Evaluation Test at a designated company clinic, including testing for lifting, pushing/pulling, repetitive coupling, static weight, and other required movements.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

May have unsupervised contact with children. Requires full background check and TB Exam.
