Position Summary
The Crisis Peer Specialist provides education, support and consultation to consumers and their families during the crisis intervention process throughout Pierce County. You will provide mobile outreach services to consumers through advocacy, problem solving, mentoring and promoting hope and empowerment. You will be responsible for rotating shifts on a 24/7 basis that includes evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Provides expertise about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by consumers and their families with severe mental illnesses to have a rewarding life
- Collaborates to promote a team culture that recognizes, understands, and respects each consumer’s point of view, experiences, and preference
- Facilitates maximization of consumer choice, self-determination, and decision making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment
- Serves as a liaison with community resources, allied treatment providers, and substance abuse services
- Provides education, support and consultation to consumers and families in crisis; provides support during the crisis intervention process
Requirements
- High school diploma preferred OR two years paid or volunteer work experience with individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses
- Employees hired after November 1, 2025 must have an active Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) at time of hire. Current employees must obtain Washington State Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification within one (1) year of hire but no later than 12/31/2026.
- Washington State Counselor Agency Affiliated Registered (ACCR) credential must be applied for within thirty (30) days of hire. Employees may work while the application is pending for up to one hundred twenty (120) days, unless a higher credential is already held
- Drivers License/Abstract
- Successfully pass an examination administered by the Mental Health Division
- Experience as a recipient of mental health services for severe and persistent mental health illness
