Criminalist (DNA Special Skills)
Duty Statement
The Criminalist classification is an entry, training, and sub-journey level position. Criminalists perform routine and less complex biology and DNA examinations and analyses. They may assist higher-level Criminalists in scientific investigations and the examination of physical evidence at crime scenes.
About the Role
This position is located in the Division of Law Enforcement, Bureau of Forensic Services, Riverside Laboratory. It is an entry, training, and sub-journey level position within the Criminalist classification. The primary responsibilities include performing routine and less complex biology and DNA examinations and analyses. Criminalists may also assist higher-level Criminalists in scientific investigations and the examination of physical evidence at crime scenes.
Responsibilities

- Assist higher-level Criminalists in scientific investigations and the examination of physical evidence at crime scenes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a criminal justice program or related field.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid California driver's license.
Qualifications
- Experience in biology and DNA analysis.
- Knowledge of forensic science principles and practices.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Skills
- Proficiency in laboratory equipment and techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay
The starting salary for this position is $4,587.00 - $6,100.00 A, with potential for advancement up to $10,138.00 C. New-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary of Range A, unless they meet Alternate Range Criteria.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
