About the role
This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective case management procedures that support the efficient administration of criminal court operations. The Criminal Court Operations Manager attends Veterans Court and misdemeanor competency dockets, and provides the judiciary with detailed case information, procedural history, and status updates to facilitate informed judicial decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Attend Veterans Court dockets and assists the judiciary by providing case status information, assists with program paperwork, and provides support to the volunteer Mentors.
- Attend misdemeanor competency dockets and provides the Court with qualified doctors for competency evaluations.
- Screen and process Risk Protection Order (RPO) filings to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and established court procedures.
- Review, monitor, and manage criminal cases, identifying cases requiring action and coordinating efforts to move them toward disposition.
- Work with the Court Administrative staff to analyze trends and prepare statistical reports.
- Maintain and monitor arraignment calendars, coordinating with law enforcement to ensure individuals released from custody receive accurate court dates.
- Analyze case management trends and prepare statistical reports and other data requested by judges and Court Administration.
- Compose and maintain court orders, calendars, correspondence, memoranda, reports, e-mails and other documents.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
- Establish working relationships with judges, court personnel, professionals associated with the legal community and the general public.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology or closely related field.
- Three (3) years of experience working in a business or court setting; or equivalent combination of related training and experience.
Qualifications
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized; demonstrates close attention to detail and the ability to work in stressful situations.
- Knowledge of the legal system and terminology.
- Knowledge of the criminal process and documents filed at various states of criminal proceedings.
- Skills in analyzing court files for appropriate pleadings and legal documentation.
Skills
- Ability to work independently and to establish work priorities.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely and logically, both orally and in writing with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive issues before the court.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Extremely computer literate and able to work in a paperless/file-less system.
