Salary Range: $62,095.00 - $101,206.00 Annually

CLASS DEFINITION

A Crime Laboratory Technician II investigates the scene of crimes and collects physical evidence for laboratory examination and court presentation. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work rotating shifts and are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Work is performed at crime locations where such conditions as the seasonal extremes of weather, dangerous City districts and violent or hostile individuals are encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion necessary to lift and move large and heavy materials and objects from crime sites.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Have bachelor's degree in criminalistics, chemistry, biology, physics or a related science from an accredited college or university.
  • AND Have and two years of experience in the detection, collection and preservation of criminal evidence for court use.
  • OR Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • AND Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.

Licenses, Registrations and Certificates

Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required. Provisional driver’s licenses or learner permits are not acceptable.

Background Check

Probation

All people, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory one-year probation.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months.

Training and Experience

The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Educational Accreditation

Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

Selection Process

All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity.

Examination Process

Successful applicants will be placed on the employment certified eligible list for at least six months. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented in your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.
