About the role
The City of Aurora is seeking a Crime Analyst Supervisor to oversee a team of crime analysts who conduct various types of analysis on law enforcement data. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in criminal justice planning or law enforcement as a research specialist, preferably with supervisory experience.
Responsibilities
- Hire and train crime analysts
- Plan, prioritize, and review unit activities
- Evaluate performance and provide feedback
- Develop or modify work plans, methods, and procedures
- Assist analysts in achieving performance standards and identifying areas for improvement
- Build relationships with managers, stakeholders, and partnering agencies
- Provide work instruction and assist employees with difficult assignments
- Recommend changes to increase operating efficiency and expedite workflow
- Conduct specialized analytical work and participate in crime analysis software/database selection
- Manage and conduct quality assurance on internal and external relational databases
- Respond to ad hoc requests for crime information
Qualifications
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, criminology, or a related field with coursework in research, statistics, and crime analysis
- At least 5 years of experience in criminal justice planning or law enforcement as a research specialist
- At least 2 years' experience supervising or leading other employees in a judicial or law enforcement environment
Skills
- Knowledge of crime analysis and criminal justice functions
- Use of personal computers and database, word processing, and spreadsheet software programs
- Interpersonal skills for speaking and interacting with fellow employees and citizens
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to direct and effectively supervise employees
- Ability to be a subject matter expert on crime analysis
Minimum Qualifications
- NCIC/CCIC certification preferred
