About the Role

This position is responsible for lawn mowing, clean-ups, mulching, trimming, landscape maintenance, pruning, fertilization, weed control, planting of trees and shrubs, flower installation, leaf clean-ups, and similar tasks. Employees safely and efficiently complete landscape enhancement projects on assigned properties, supporting the team to deliver quality work on time under the direction of the Crew Leader or Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as skid steer, excavator, backhoe, and other mechanized tools (e.g., gas-powered trimmers, weed eaters, stick edgers, backpack blowers, push mowers, wheelbarrows, hand tools).
  • Perform landscape maintenance functions including spraying weed control and other chemical applications requiring licensure; store, transport, mix, and apply chemicals in accordance with the law.
  • Follow installation instructions and plans with the Crew Leader and Operations Manager.
  • Assist in loading and unloading equipment, tools, and supplies on trucks.
  • Comply with the equipment preventative maintenance program; clean used equipment thoroughly and store in designated areas daily.
  • Perform daily tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming, planting, fertilizing, watering, detailing ornamental vegetation, weeding, spraying, cleaning hard surfaces, tree care, sod installation, masonry work, excavation, raking, and irrigation or masonry installation assistance.
  • Maintain job sites, vehicles, trailers, warehouses, and offices in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Report problem areas on site, equipment or supply issues, accidents, or losses to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements, especially in handling equipment and chemicals.
  • Ensure quality and timely completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Participate in training programs as required.
  • May be required to safely transport crew members to and from job sites in a company vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to read architectural drawings and follow plans as shown on property maps.
  • Ability to work safely alone and demonstrate quality and thoroughness in work product.
  • Ability to teach and train new laborers.
  • Dependable; consistently arrives to work on time, responds to management direction, and commits to required hours for job completion (varies based on weather/season).
  • Organized, hardworking, safety-conscious, punctual, self-motivated, honest, and customer service-driven.
  • Effectively communicates with others; able to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions/information.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Accountable; demonstrates dependability in attendance and timeliness, and carefully follows directions and instructions.
  • Solutions-oriented with the ability to apply feedback to improve performance.
  • Holds, at a minimum, a State Technician and/or Applicator license per local requirement.
  • Must have transportation to and from the designated meeting location.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance at all times, adhering to the uniform code and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in landscape installation (entry-level to 2 years of experience in gardening fundamentals is acceptable).
  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.

Environmental Considerations

  • Works outdoors in diverse weather conditions (hot, cold, humid, or inclement weather).
  • Operates in environments with high noise levels and near moving mechanical parts.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, fumes, or airborne particles (e.g., gasoline, oil, grease, herbicides, pesticides, or other horticulture-related products).
  • Works on uneven terrain for extended periods and at varying heights above ground.
  • Exposure to nature elements such as irritating plants and stinging or biting insects, as well as potential encounters with dogs and other animals.
  • Must have the stamina to perform tasks throughout an 8–10 hour standard workday, with the ability to work long or extra hours during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, and subject to call-outs).

Physical Requirements

The following physical demands are required for this role:

  • Rarely (less than 10%): Crawling, climbing poles, ladders.
  • Occasionally (up to 33%): Sitting, looking into the distance, climbing stairs, lifting between 10–50 pounds.
  • Frequently (up to 66%): Sense of touch, speaking clearly, getting in and out of trucks, reading, hearing (speech range), depth perception, pushing, pulling, balancing, lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Continuously (67%–100%): Walking, standing, manual dexterity, bending, range of motion, kneeling, squatting, twisting the body, grasping, seeing, reaching, color vision, lifting, carrying, lifting up to 10 pounds.

Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must understand and demonstrate proper safety procedures, complying with all OSHA regulations and responding to emergencies promptly. Must maintain attention and concentration during long periods and wear PPE as necessary. Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle multiple times per day.
