Crew Leader - Underground (Union Power)

About the role

The Underground Crew Leader position is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role requires a deep understanding of underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks, along with the ability to lead and train lower-skilled employees.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.
  • Supervise crew members and conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings.
  • Troubleshoot problems on underground circuits and identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups, understand induced voltage, and possess knowledge of tools for terminating cable.
  • Understand grounding procedures, how to obtain a one-shot on a reclosure, and be capable of working in confined spaces.
  • Able to properly install and remove Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and cover-ups, and understand how to safely operate equipment.
  • Plan safe work based on a job print or work order, understand sloping and shoring requirements, and phase out a line using phasing sticks.
  • Comply with company reporting procedures and complete required company paperwork.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Coordinate and inspect the work of crew members.

Requirements

  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Possess a CDL and demonstrate safe driving.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
  • Exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
  • Occasional exposure to loud noise levels in the work environment and job sites.
  • Performing tasks in outside weather conditions.
