Crew Leader - Underground (Broad River Electric)

About the role

The Underground Climbing Crew Leader position is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role requires a deep understanding of underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks.

Responsibilities

• Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.
• Supervise crew members and lead training sessions on safe and productive work procedures.
• Troubleshoot problems on underground circuits and maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good condition.
• Comply with company reporting procedures and complete required paperwork.
• Coordinate and inspect the work of crew members and plan safe work based on job prints or work orders.
• Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit, understand grounding procedures, and properly install and remove Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Understand and apply ladder requirements, flag and tag procedures, and safely operate equipment.
• Perform rigorous physical labor and work in various locations, including outside in inclement weather.
• Work extended hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Requirements

• Able to climb poles and operate a mini-excavator.
• Frequent travel to various job sites.
• Knowledge of flag and tag procedures, CDL license, and safe driving skills.
• Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs and work in confined spaces.
• Understanding of induced voltage, grounding procedures, and proper installation of rubber goods.
• Knowledge of ladder requirements, line protection devices, and how to safely operate equipment.
• Experience with underground distribution systems, including troubleshooting, and working with energized high voltage systems.

• Experience leading and training lower skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures.
• Understanding of underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks.
• Ability to conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings.
• Knowledge of tools for terminating cable and how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
• Understanding of sloping and shoring requirements.
• Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Understanding of how to safely operate equipment and test and classify soil.
• Experience with underground distribution systems, including troubleshooting and working with energized high voltage systems.
