Crew Chief

About the role

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an energetic, adaptable, and solution-oriented Crew Chief in Connecticut to join our Survey/Geospatial team. This team offers a full range of survey and geospatial data and mapping services, enabling faster, safer, and more accurate data collection from the air, ground, and subsurface. The role supports precision data interpretation and career growth toward becoming an industry leader.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform advanced field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using efficient methods and adhering to applicable standards.
• Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
• Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
• Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with minimal assistance from the office support team.
• Prepare or receive from the Project Manager the Health and Safety Checklists; review and instruct crew personnel on safety hazards, PPE, and related protocols.
• Maintain, transport, and operate survey instruments and equipment for land surveys and job site preparation.
• Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
• Mentor and train junior field staff to facilitate career advancement.

• State DOT design and right-of-way (ROW) surveys
• Utility surveys
• 3D scanning
• Horizontal and vertical control surveys
• Construction layout
• Residential and commercial property surveys
• Topographic surveys
• Aerial ground control surveys
• Boundary and ALTA surveys

Requirements

• 5+ years of field survey experience and at least 2+ years of experience as a Crew Chief, or equivalent knowledge.
• Proficiency with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, conventional field note-keeping, total stations, and leveling.
• Experience with or ability to learn the use of 3D scanners.
• Self-starter with minimal need for supervision once provided with a work assignment.
• Ability to work in inclement weather.
• Willingness to travel.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (MVR will be checked and monitored).
• Ability to read, write, and understand English for job-related communications and instructions.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in the employer’s random drug and alcohol testing program.
