Credit Risk - Senior Credit Officer
About the role
The Senior Credit Officer position at our bank is dedicated to underwriting and making decisions on business credits. This role involves using various tools for financial statement analysis, gathering client information, assessing risks, and recommending changes in credit policies. The Senior Credit Officer is also responsible for managing and renewing credits, maintaining corporate credit policies, and overseeing client credit files.
Responsibilities
- Utilize financial statement analysis, company information, and industry insights to evaluate loan applications.
- Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Support the Commercial Relationship Management team by providing recommendations for cross-selling opportunities and pre-approvals.
- Document loan declines and discuss any pertinent points.
- Help design new credit policies, processes, and procedures.
- Absolutely approve credits up to the legal limit while ensuring an appropriate credit risk level.
- Manage the monitoring and renewal of existing credits.
- Work closely with department members to maintain the corporate credit policy.
- Investigate the largest clients' credit applications and visit them to build relationships.
- Participate in meetings, special projects, and training sessions as needed.
- Build strong relationships with clients and colleagues, treating everyone with respect and consideration.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulations and bank policies and procedures, including BSA and OFAC requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Auditor, or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
- At least 10 years of progressive job-related experience.
- Advanced degree or certification related to the field is preferred.
- At least 12 years of commercial credit experience.
- Previous managerial experience is desirable.
- Thorough knowledge of credit-related laws is required.
