About the role

The role is responsible for forming, articulating and recommending credit views on counterparties, transactions and structures, while ensuring risks are appropriately identified, mitigated and escalated. • Prepare, own and recommend credit applications for new transactions, amendments and annual reviews, including clear credit rationale and risk mitigants.
    • Form independent views on counterparty business models, sector dynamics and structural risks through financial analysis and research, and challenge assumptions where appropriate.
    • Recommend credit limits, tenors, structures and conditions in line with risk appetite.
    • Support senior credit officers on more complex, higher-risk or strategically significant transactions outside the core portfolio, including structured and bespoke financings.
    • Act as a trusted credit partner to Trading and Client Coverage, providing timely, commercial and risk-aware input on transactions, limits and structures.
    • Proactively engage with front-office teams to shape deal structures and mitigate risk at origination.
    • Represent and defend credit recommendations in Credit Committee and other risk forums, responding to challenge and ensuring decisions are well-reasoned and documented.
  • Ongoing Credit Management:
    • Own the ongoing credit risk assessment for a portfolio including credit limits, exposures and covenant compliance, and early identification of emerging risks.
    • Determine when credit issues require escalation, remediation or restructuring.
    • Drive amendments, reviews or risk actions in response to changes in credit quality or market conditions.
  • Other:
    • Lead or drive targeted initiatives to improve credit processes, portfolio risk management, data quality or risk reporting.
    • Provide guidance and informal mentoring to junior credit analysts, supporting development of credit judgement and best practice.

Required Skills/Experience

  • 3-5+ years' experience in credit risk, covering market-facing businesses such as commodities, EM, structured finance or trading counterparties.
  • Demonstrated experience forming and defending independent credit recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of transaction structures, documentation (e.g. LMA / ISDA) and credit risk mitigants.
  • Ability to balance commercial considerations with disciplined risk judgement under time pressure.
  • Fluent English required; Spanish and/or Portuguese desirable but not essential.
  • Sound, independent credit judgement and confidence to challenge senior stakeholders constructively.
  • Credibility with Trading and Client Coverage as a risk partner, not just a control function.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to defend recommendations in senior forums.
  • High level of integrity, accountability and ownership of outcomes.
