About the role

This role is responsible for performing transaction reviews, including assessing the quality of credit decisions, managing portfolios, and evaluating the effectiveness of credit management processes. Through examinations and monitoring, Credit Review provides an independent assessment of credit decisions and the effectiveness of credit processes across the bank’s credit platform, identifies existing and emerging risks, and reports its findings to stakeholders, including executive management, the Board of Directors, external auditors, and regulatory agencies.

This specific role will support ongoing testing and assessments of structured transactions and counterparty credit risk within Global Markets, Financial Institutions, and Global Wealth and Investment Management portfolios. The Sr. Examiner will work with examination teams to assess credit decisioning, portfolio management, risk recognition practices, and the effectiveness of credit management processes, focusing on more complex transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs transactional testing of credit process execution for new and existing clients.
  • Supports conclusions through fact-based analysis, proposing suggestions and influencing senior leaders.
  • Participates in examination activities, occasionally leading exams.
  • Identifies, assesses, and reports on existing and emerging risks.
  • Drives a culture of continuous improvement by leading or participating in complex or multiple projects.
  • Achieves continuous testing goals by producing quality, timely work.
  • Maintains well-written, easy-to-follow work papers in accordance with Credit Review guidelines and best practices.
  • Raises potential areas of concern for QA team review.
  • Actively engages with Corporate Audit to ensure ongoing awareness of review activity, coordination, and risk assessment.
  • Supports enterprise initiatives related to operational excellence and adoption of AI tools.
  • Establishes Monitoring Plans for assigned credit portfolios, assesses associated Level and Direction of Risk ratings, and acts as Examiner-in-Charge (EIC).
  • Proactively implements credit review strategy for the sound application of risk-based practices by defining scope, program, and review procedures.
  • Exercises judgment and influences senior business managers and peers.
  • Drives completion of credit issues and helps business partners balance their business strategy with appropriate risk management controls.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and communication of Credit Review's missions, goals, and strategies.
  • Interacts with regulatory agencies, external consultants, and other internal risk management groups.
  • Assesses and advises on the impact of industry-level, geo-political, and economic trends on credit portfolios.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of direct commercial credit experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a preference in finance, accounting, economics, or other business concentration.
  • 5+ years of commercial credit experience (direct lending, workout, risk management, and/or regulatory).
  • Ability to support conclusions through fact-based analysis and influence senior leaders.
  • Excellent credit analysis, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks while delivering high-quality results.
  • Expert financial analysis skills.
  • Deep knowledge of loan structuring and underwriting.
  • Experienced in credit and risk assessment.
  • Issue management and resolution skills.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent skills in building and maintaining business relationships.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, assessing, and reporting on existing and emerging risks.
  • Experience with direct applicability to Credit Review responsibilities.
  • Ability to coach/mentor new or less experienced associates.
  • Strong Counterparty Credit Risk background and/or Global Markets experience preferred.
