Credit Analyst

This role is located in New York City and will require a hybrid work schedule of at least 2 days in office per week. The position is open to Officer or Assistant Officer candidates depending on experience.

Department Overview

The Americas Division (“AD”) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch (“SMTBNY”) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. The Global Banking Unit (“GBU”), Americas Division and Global Markets Unit (“GMU”), Americas Division perform business functions under the AD.

Specialty Finance Department (SFD)

The Specialty Finance Department (“SFD”) is responsible for originating, booking, and monitoring credit facilities for both bilateral and syndicated loan transactions. SFD focuses on building and monitoring portfolio assets in three main product areas: Project Finance, Trade and Commodity Finance, and Aviation Finance.

Responsibilities

• Review potential transactions in Trade and Commodity Finance and prepare credit memos, applications, cash flow models, and other relevant material for underwriting purposes.
• Monitor assigned transactions to maintain credit quality through appropriate measures, including financial analysis and trends, cross-sectional analysis, cash flow analysis, and market value/liquidity.
• Ensure compliance with applicable investment guidelines and directives from Head Office and Branch Management.
• Prepare all applications and reports and make recommendations on amendments, waivers, refinancings, and other ongoing activities.
• Handle all Head Office and Branch monitoring and reporting requirements, including rating review, business review of documentation, regulatory review, booking, and financial and portfolio review requirements, with support from Operations Analyst as designated.
• Conduct business development activities such as managing or assisting in managing relationships with clients in the assigned sector.
• Conduct or support deal structuring activities.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Economics or equivalent with 3+ years of related experience in Trade & Commodity Finance or Corporate Finance.
• Good knowledge of finance and basic accounting.
• Good knowledge of commonly used research resources, including Bloomberg, EDGAR, and rating agencies.
• Basic knowledge of corporate finance transactions and loan markets.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access) and some modeling capabilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
