About the role
As a Credit Analyst at Husqvarna Construction in Olathe, KS, you manage client accounts from a finance perspective to support sales while mitigating the company’s risk of payment delays and exposure to bad debt. This position is critical for protecting the company’s assets and mitigating financial risk.
Responsibilities
- Manage internal and external communications (70%)
- External: Customers (30%)
- Appropriate and timely follow-up on past due obligations and research disputes/claims to ensure quick resolution of outstanding invoices.
- Communicate tactfully with customers regarding credit restrictions and advise customer service/sales groups accordingly.
- Utilize phone calls, letters, emails, and personal visits to maintain collections as required by budgets.
- Internal: Credit Manager, Sales, and Customer Service (35%)
- Communicate with Customer Service, Technical Services, and Sales regarding customer claims for credit.
- Send Trial Balances to sales representatives monthly and keep them informed of account status changes.
- Advise the credit manager and sales representatives of collection difficulties or changes in credit conditions.
- Notify the credit manager of bankruptcy filings, file proof of claim, and update on bankruptcy status as needed.
- External: Other (5%)
- Provide credit reference information to trade partners upon request.
- Work with collection agencies to maintain collection efforts.
- Handle all written and verbal follow-up for accounts in assigned areas.
- External: Customers (30%)
- Maintain records & analyze requests (30%)
- Use PC to maintain accurate records on accounts.
- Apply good judgment, credit reporting agencies, financial analysis, and security to support credit lines and payment terms up to Net 60 days.
- For credit line requests up to $150,000, provide supporting analysis and recommendation to the Credit Supervisor and Credit Manager for approval.
- For credit line requests over $150,000, provide supporting analysis to the Credit Supervisor for approval by the Credit Manager and Director of Finance.
- Maintain A/R and other departmental records using PC software.
- Negotiate extended payment terms with customers in accordance with department guidelines.
- Recommend and obtain written approval from the credit manager to place accounts for third-party collections or write off bad debts.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve invoice, shipment, and payment discrepancies using GAAP.
Competencies
- Accurately entering data and conveying financial information to customers, sales, and customer service.
- Tactfully enforcing collections and communicating credit decisions to customers.
- Applying HCP guidelines to financial analysis.
- Applying sound judgment in ambiguous situations and appropriately engaging other parties (e.g., Credit Manager, sales).
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of industry credit reporting tools (e.g., DNB, Experian).
- Solid knowledge of PRMS, CRM, Excel, phone systems, and PC software.
- Ability to negotiate payment and payment plans to ensure acceptable delinquency levels.
- Solid knowledge of reconciling customer accounts using GAAP.
- Accurate typing and data entry.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience as a commercial collections representative.
- At least 5 years’ work experience as a commercial credit analyst or credit & collections representative.
Working Conditions
