Responsibilities
- Review and approve or decline new and complex commercial credit transactions in accordance with the Bank's credit policies.
- Ensure that the structure of each commercial credit transaction (at the time of underwriting, and on an ongoing basis) is in conformity with policy, and report policy exceptions as required.
- Timely, accurate, and effective communication to management regarding potential material risks associated with existing commercial credits, including recommendations for appropriate action.
- Perform portfolio-level analytics and stress testing to inform management about risks within the loan portfolio, including concentration risk and interest rate risk.
- Verify that the risk rating assigned to each commercial credit is accurate and based on the most recent information available to the Bank.
- Prepare appropriate reports and forms to communicate the current state of commercial credits (both performing and non-performing) to management.
- Ensure that the underlying value of all collateral is current and reliable, particularly for commercial credits determined to be special mention or substandard.
- Successfully restructure or liquidate special mention and/or substandard commercial credits within an acceptable timeframe.
- Work in coordination with the Compliance Officer to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations with respect to lending.
- Act as the CRA officer, manage CRA reporting and compliance.
- Participate in internal control audits and financial statement audits as they relate to loan operations.
- Assist management with other responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of commercial banking experience, including underwriting and monitoring large, complex commercial loan transactions.
- Previous experience as a Commercial Banking Relationship Manager or equivalent Regional President experience.
- A strong understanding of accounting, financial statement analysis, and business valuation methods.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in software applications such as Excel, Word, etc.
- Ability to work with outside service providers (legal counsel, auditors, examiners, appraisers, etc.)
- Working knowledge of the regulatory environment.
- Proactive, precise, highly motivated, and able to adapt and thrive within the Bank's credit culture.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
Preferred
- An MBA or 10 years of commercial banking experience, particularly in underwriting and monitoring large, complex commercial loan transactions.
