Responsibilities
- Counsels, crisis intervenes, and provides harm reduction and referral services to patients.
- Supports and guides other CPEP staff in serving individuals with substance use issues.
- Fosters and enables a positive work environment by modeling the I CARE values.
- Performs substance use evaluations by direct interview.
- Assesses chemical use history, symptoms of psychological dependence, motivation for change, and personal resources.
- Gathers family historical data concerning drug and alcohol usage.
- Completes written documentation and provides oral reports to the interdisciplinary team.
- Adheres to confidentiality and laws concerning patient rights.
- Functions as a consultant and subject matter expert on Substance Use issues.
- Informs, educates, and guides co-workers in appropriate assessment and discharge planning.
- Completes the LOCADTOR and provides direct services for appropriate discharge planning.
- Maintains positive relationships with local and regional services and agencies for substance abuse issues.
- Makes safety plans with patients/families and makes referrals for outpatient follow-up.
- Maintains a working knowledge of and develops relationships with local and regional services and agencies for substance abuse issues.
- Participates in CPEP Staff meetings and contributes to content materials.
- Maintains continuing education in chemical dependency counseling.
- Reports to clinical supervisor regularly for supervision.
- Serves as a liaison with physicians, staff, and others in community health, social, and government agencies.
- Supports inpatient service CASACs as indicated by supervisor.
- Assists with onsite training and support to new staff.
- Offers in-service training for CPEP and other acute services staff.
- Offers learning experiences for psychiatric residents, medical students, and interns.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to human services and 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Prior experience working in substance use treatment preferred.
- Prior experience working in a crisis or psychiatric care setting preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to provide SU assessments/evaluations and interventions in a crisis setting required.
- Knowledge of legal rights and societal attitudes toward the substance using person in and out of treatment required.
- Excellent organization, communication skills, and attention to details.
- Demonstrates ability to function independently and effectively, with minimal direction within a diverse workplace.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs.
- Ability to think strategically and operationally at the same time.
- Ability to think critically and systematically.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

- Experience with electronic medical records required.
Skills
- CASAC Certification upon hire strongly preferred.
