RemoteRemoteArt & Creative$170k–$220k/yrFull-time

Legion delivers secure, reliable AI systems that work alongside professionals tackling critical challenges in national security, defense, intelligence, public sector, and enterprise. We optimize workflows within existing platforms, enhancing human capability and driving impact at the edge. Partnering with leaders like Palantir, Nvidia, HPE, and Oracle, we build intelligent infrastructure that strengthens mission-critical systems.

About the role

Legion is bringing its creative function in-house, rebuilding it as an AI-native creative team while maintaining an agency partner for specialized projects. As Creative Director, you will serve as the hands-on operating core of this function—setting the creative bar, producing high-priority work, and building AI-driven prompts, templates, and playbooks to enable a lean team to scale efficiently.

This is an individual-contributor role to start, with potential to build and manage a small flex bench of designers and specialists over time. You will report to the SVP of Marketing and collaborate closely with Federal Marketing, Demand Marketing, Product Marketing, Digital Marketing, PR, Product, GTM, and Sales teams.

Legion’s work spans national security, defense, intelligence, and critical infrastructure—often in contexts where the mission cannot be publicly discussed. Your creative function will make this mission accessible to those who need to understand it, building the infrastructure to tell a complex story at speed.

Responsibilities

  • Creative Direction and Hands-On Execution: Set the creative standard across brand, web, campaigns, events, social, video, and sales materials, and personally design and produce the highest-priority work. Translate complex AI, edge computing, and national security concepts into clear, credible visual systems.
  • Campaign and Go-to-Market Creative: Partner with Federal, Demand, and Product Marketing on demand generation, ABM, launches, education, and field events. Build modular campaign systems, landing pages, social assets, email graphics, sales collateral, and executive materials that scale across channels.
  • AI-Native Creative Systems: Use frontier models and AI tools daily to build repeatable workflows for video, campaign kits, landing pages, social, product visuals, and decks. Develop machine-readable brand infrastructure, including reusable prompts, templates, kits, and playbooks with human review at key stages.
  • Creative Operations and Flex Bench: Build and manage a flexible bench of freelance designers, motion/video specialists, and contractors. Own intake, prioritization, briefs, review processes, and SLAs from brief to final asset.
  • Product Design Support: Partner with the Product team to align visual design with the Legion brand, raising the polish of apps, Spaces, and features. Oversee and produce product visuals, including icons, diagrams, app imagery, and in-product creative.
  • Performance and Measurement: Treat creative as a measurable loop, iterating based on performance data in partnership with Demand Marketing and Marketing Operations. Balance short-term optimization with long-term brand quality.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in creative, brand design, art direction, or creative services within high-growth technology, AI, B2B SaaS, or similarly complex and technical markets, with hands-on production experience.
  • A portfolio demonstrating range and craft across brand, campaign, web, social, video, and product/technical storytelling, showcasing both concept and execution.
  • Advanced, daily use of AI in the creative process (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, Runway, Google Veo, Sora, ElevenLabs) to improve speed and quality, and the ability to turn successful workflows into reusable systems.
  • Experience with creative coding and prototyping using tools like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Figma Make, or v0 by Vercel.
  • Track record of building brand systems (prompts, templates, kits, workflows) that others can adopt and run.
  • Experience building, hiring, and managing a freelance or contractor bench, scaling creative capacity as demand evolves.
  • Hands-on motion and video production skills (storyboarding, editing, shipping) using tools like Premiere, After Effects, Descript, and AI-assisted video.
  • Ability to produce product and in-product visuals (icons, diagrams, app imagery, feature visuals) and collaborate closely with Product Design.
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, with the flexibility to choose the right tool for each task.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with a high-ownership, low-ego, and fast-moving approach. You build the best available draft and iterate based on feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in defense, national security, intelligence, national labs, critical infrastructure, public sector, or other regulated, high-consequence industries.
  • Background in ABM, demand generation, product launches, or full-funnel B2B campaigns.
  • Familiarity with lightweight web tools like Webflow or Framer.
  • Experience building AI brand kits or machine-readable brand guidance that others have adopted.
