About the role
Join our dedicated behavioral health team as a Creative Arts Therapist, where you will help patients confront difficult emotions, process trauma, and express themselves through the therapeutic power of artistic modalities. Working within our Adult Psych department, you will design and facilitate specialized group and individual sessions that integrate counseling with the creative process to promote mental, physical, and emotional healing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree (BA/BS/MA/MS) in a Creative Arts Therapy Modality.
- Active Board Certification in your respective modality (Art, Music, Recreation, or Dance/Movement Therapy).
- A minimum of 6 months of prior experience working directly within a behavioral health or mental health setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills, exceptional patience, imagination, and a high level of professional demeanor.
Essential Functions
- Develop and facilitate both group and individual treatment interventions using an integrated creative arts framework to elicit expression from verbally defended clients.
- Assess patients' social, perceptual, physical skills, and recreational resources in strict accordance with discipline-specific clinical standards.
- Utilize symbolic content and the creative process to diagnostically uncover clinical information, increase patient self-understanding, and build insight.
- Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary care team to formulate, implement, and dynamically update comprehensive patient treatment plans.
- Participate actively in the immediate management of clinical crisis situations under direct leadership.
- Monitor, track, and report critical behavioral or physical changes in a patient's condition to the program director in compliance with facility policy.
- Design creative interventions aimed at resolving internal conflicts, boosting self-esteem, enhancing problem-solving skills, and teaching relaxation techniques.
- Facilitate multi-family groups as clinically appropriate.
- Manage the daily therapeutic program environment and assist patients with post-discharge leisure time planning and community resource mapping.
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, filing, and copying.
- Occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and pushing/pulling items up to 10 lbs.
- Constant hearing ability and occasional color vision acuity required to review artistic submissions.
