Job Overview

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate hydraulic and lattice boom cranes with various lifting capacities to move materials, equipment, and structural components.
  • Perform pre-operational checks, daily inspections, and routine maintenance on crane equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Read and interpret load charts, blueprints, and rigging diagrams to determine safe lifting capacities and procedures.
  • Coincide with signal persons, riggers, and other team members to ensure precise and safe lifts.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with supervisors and co-workers regarding lifting operations and potential hazards.
  • Monitor crane operations for stability, load balance, and potential hazards, making immediate adjustments as needed.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, damage, or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel promptly.
  • Aid with rigging and unrigging operations as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around the crane.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) certification for relevant crane types.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating cranes on heavy civil construction projects, specifically road construction.
  • Proven ability to operate cranes safely and efficiently in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
  • Strong understanding of crane mechanics, load dynamics, and rigging principles.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, schematics, and safety manuals.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime, as project demands require.
  • Familiarity with Louisiana state DOT regulations and construction practices is a plus.

Primoris Heavy Civil provides highway, port, airfield, rail and marine (intermodal transportation) construction services to private commercial and industrial clients as well as governmental entities such as the Department of Transportation and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Heavy Civil is comprised of six operating units that include North Louisiana Operations, South Louisiana Operations, Texas Operations, HMA Paving Operations, Concrete Paving Operations, and the Infrastructure Rehabilitation Unit.
