Responsibilities
- Operate various cranes (All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Mobile Crawlers, Hydraulic Cranes, Boom Trucks) under Lift Director supervision for heavy/civil construction tasks such as pile driving, beam erection, demolition, concrete construction, and steel erection.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA Subpart CC (29 CFR 1926.1400–1442) and follow radio commands/ASME B30.5 hand signals for lift communications.
- Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on cranes; initiate repair requests as needed.
- Conduct general labor duties and maintain visual/radio contact with ground operators per safety regulations.
- Support other crane operators, including overtime work, equipment operation, and training/monitoring junior operators.
- Maintain a current Load Chart and Operations Manual in the crane cab and demonstrate proficiency in load chart usage and crane configurations.
- Participate in lifting load planning and execute approved Lift Plans.
- Inspect and select rated rigging (slings, cables, straps, blocks, hooks, shackles) ensuring all lifts are within load limits and correctly rigged.
- Demonstrate proficiency in crane handling, pre-start/post-start inspections, maneuvering, shutdown, and securing procedures.
- Work various shifts in a team environment, contributing to daily team functions and project management.
- Perform daily safety/operational inspections, complete administrative paperwork (e.g., daily crane inspection reports), and maintain inspection records.
- Operate cranes safely with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.
- Understand crane operation characteristics, emergency response, and safety protocols (e.g., fire, power line contact, tipping).
- Climb on/off heavy mobile equipment safely and assist with other duties when not operating a crane.
- Inspect cranes and recommend actions to maintain equipment in good working order.
- Communicate effectively and demonstrate dependability, self-motivation, and task orientation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience lifting and placing concrete (by bucket), prefabricated bridge beams, precast bridge deck panels, rebar, concrete pipe, and metal forming components.
- NCCCO or NCCER certification.
- FDOT Pile Driving experience (18" & 24" concrete piles) preferred.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA requirements for crane operation, including daily inspection logs and safe hoisting practices.
