Crane Operator

About the role

Operate an overhead crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. Control crane functions by depressing buttons and manipulating levers to safely move steel and support warehouse operations such as loading and unloading trucks, saws, and other equipment. Maintain full control of the equipment and load in a professional, safe manner while maximizing productivity by planning efficient moves.

Responsibilities

• Operate overhead crane to load and unload material off trucks
• Store all material in the correct locations
• Move material within the warehouse
• Load and unload processing equipment
• Ensure all equipment has an order staged and is never sitting idle
• Work with supervisors to streamline workflow
• Perform daily safety checks of equipment
• Obey all safety rules
• Maintain general housekeeping and clean-up of warehouse and work area
• Participate in continuous improvement and monthly safety meetings
• Complete paperwork accurately
• Communicate with team members to ensure orders are successfully filled
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience as a crane operator is a plus but not required
• Ability to safely meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company
• Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision
• Ability to work alone and in a team environment
• Develop a good working knowledge of material and inventory control techniques and procedures
• Ability to maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations

• Regularly required to sit; use hands/fingers to handle or feel; and talk or hear

• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds

• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may occasionally be high due to the open office environment
