Crane Operator

About the role

Wildcat self-performs a wide range of civil construction work, including earthwork and site prep, concrete and asphalt paving, civil and structural concrete, rock excavation, piling and sheet piling, sub-grade stabilization, and water/waste-water treatment facilities. The Sherwood Companies have extensive experience with underground utilities such as sanitary sewer, water, storm sewer, and main electrical distribution, as well as projects ranging from urban expressways and bridges to dam construction and water/wastewater treatment plants.

This role involves operating a stationary or traveling crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads safely and efficiently in the heavy construction industry. The position is classified as safety-sensitive.

Responsibilities

• Operate crane under general supervision, following written, verbal, or signal instructions.
• Manipulate crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
• Inspect crane daily for safety issues and determine if any parts are malfunctioning.
• Repair crane as needed.
• Complete job tickets, service quality summaries, and other necessary paperwork.
• Lift, position, and place machinery, equipment, or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities.
• Drive trucks to worksites and unload trucks.
• Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads.
• Move levers and pedals to rotate crane, raise and lower the boom, and adjust the load-line.
• Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify the boom for pile driving or high lifting.
• Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
• Start and stop crane engine.
• Follow all company safety policies and practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Work as part of a team to complete necessary tasks on job sites.
• Use hand tools and other equipment required to complete tasks.
• Maintain work quality and preserve both ongoing and completed work.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Conditions

• Capable of working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• Capable of working at elevations of 200 feet or more.
• Capable of working at depths up to 30 feet below ground level or floor.
• Capacity for working where fall-arresting personal protective equipment is required.
• Capable of working on two-point (window washer) suspended scaffolds.
• Capable of working on interior multi-point suspended scaffolds.
• Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements.

Physical Demands

• Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally.
• Ability to stand, sit, stoop, bend, walk, and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
