Crane Operator

Operate a mobile crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads, and unload crane accessories from trailer or support vehicles. Collaborate with riggers and site supervision via verbal or hand signals to determine load movement; may also work as ground crew. Follow safety procedures and maintain logs of vehicle repair status and working hours (FMCSA).

Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of cranes: All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawlers, Industrial, Hydraulic Trucks, Conventional Trucks, and Boom Trucks.
  • Set up cranes per manufacturer’s operators manual and company rules regarding cribbing/matting, cribbing blocks, or mats.
  • Direct activities of oilers, truck drivers, or helpers in assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Place cribbing blocks and/or pads; operate levers and foot pedals to rotate superstructure, raise and lower boom, and cables.
  • Assemble and disassemble boom sections by bolting or pinning to modify boom lengths.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections along with daily and monthly equipment inspections.
  • Perform routine maintenance and carry tools for running repairs.
  • Barricade counterweight tail swing and working radius.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed during assembly, disassembly, and operation of crane.
  • Wear required PPE safety equipment.
  • Complete job tickets for customer acceptance and billing.
  • Drive truck to worksites and unload equipment.
  • Occasional brief travel, typically not exceeding one week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of crane operation experience.
  • Working knowledge of rigging, cranes, and commercial moving and storage.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and speak English.
  • Current NCCCO, TLL (TSS preferred), or equivalent crane operator certification.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI standards in crane operations.
  • CDL-B license required; CDL-A preferred.
  • Pass drug test, background check, and DOT physical/fit-for-duty test.
  • LBC/LBT certification helpful but not required.
  • Strong oral and written communication, technical, and functional skills.
