Crane Operator

About the role

MasTec Civil, a MasTec Company, is seeking a skilled Crane Operator to join our team in Tampa, Florida. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience operating All-Terrain Hydraulic Cranes (up to 160 tons) and/or Crawler/Lattice Boom Cranes (up to 300 tons).

Responsibilities

• Operates under Lift Director supervision and works with crews on various types of cranes: All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Mobile Crawlers, Hydraulic Cranes, and Boom Trucks.
• Associated with the heavy/civil, roadway and bridge construction industry that includes, but not limited to; pile driving, beam erection, demolition, concrete construction, steel erection, and/or other heavy construction lifting activities.
• Maintains compliance responsibilities set forth in the OSHA standard Subpart CC, Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1926.1400–1442).
• Communicates and responds to radio commands and/or with the ASME B30.5 Standard Hand Signals for Mobile Crane Operations regarding lift communications and/or lift instructions.
• Performs routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required and initiates additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary.
• Supports other crane operators as necessary, including working overtime to complete tasks, operating several types of equipment, and training junior operators.
• Maintains visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations, and responds to questions and instructions clearly and quickly.
• Demonstrates proficiency with the set up and operation of the crane’s computer in correct configuration and works within limitations.
• Demonstrates proficiency in handling, pre-start inspections, post-start inspections, maneuvering skills, shut down and securing procedures.
• Participates in and performs lifting load planning; and executes the approved Lift Plan accordingly.
• Maintains a current Load Chart and Operations Manual within the crane cab at all times and demonstrates Load Chart proficiency on various crane configurations and load chart usage.
• Maintains daily safety and operational inspection of the crane.
• Prepares and submits daily crane inspection reports as per internal protocols and industry requirements.
• Inspects and ensures correct selection of rated rigging (slings, cables, straps, blocks, hooks, shackles, etc.) and crane appurtenances prior to lifting operations.
• Possesses the ability to operate various mobile cranes safely with a minimum of supervision while handling multiple tasks.
• Possesses a thorough understanding of crane operation characteristics, controls, emergency skills, response to fire, power line contact, tipping, malfunction characteristics, and performance questions about the specific crane types in use.
• Responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment.
• Willing to assist in other duties as required while not operating a crane.
• Knows how to inspect cranes and recommend appropriate actions to maintain the crane in good working order.
• Understands OSHA requirements in connection with crane operation including daily inspection log, focus on crane operation, and safe hoisting, moving, and placing materials and objects using appropriate attachments.
• Communicates effectively.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and task-oriented.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or general education degree.
• 5+ years’ experience lifting and placing concrete by bucket, prefabricated bridge beams, precast bridge deck panels, rebar, concrete pipe as well as metal forming components.
• NCCCO or NCCER certification.
