Crane Operator

Responsibilities

  • Operate the equipment in adherence to safety policies, procedures, job site, and/or traffic laws.
  • Maintain 3 points of contact on all pieces of equipment at all times.
  • Respond to signals and directions from other staff members and work in coordination with them.
  • Maintain visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations, and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly.
  • Perform daily walk-around checks and properly complete daily checklist.
  • Clean and maintain equipment.
  • Perform routine inspections on assigned equipment and report any needed repairs to the supervisor.
  • Attend daily safety meetings with the crew.
  • Report any safety violation to the Supervisor and/or Safety Department.
  • Report any incident to the Supervisor or safety team.
  • When not operating heavy equipment, must perform other duties as assigned by Foreman.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ of operating 80+ ton cranes, overhead cranes, and/or mobile cranes.
  • Must be NCCCO certified with TLL certification and LBC certification.
  • Crawler certification a plus.
  • Experience building bridges is required.
  • Pile driving experience is a plus.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma/GED preferred.

Skills

  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Excellent hand, eye, and foot coordination.
  • Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, plans, maintenance instructions, operating procedures, etc.
  • Strong teamwork orientation.

Pay

Hourly salary: $36+/ per hour; Based on Experience

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

Work performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, ranging from freezing temperatures to heat above 90°F, in both wet and dry conditions. Work may be performed in confined spaces. Exposure to odors, gases, dust, and dirt. Noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. Frequent lifting and carrying of 10-60 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds. Frequent overhead reaching and lifting. Majority of time spent standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Manual labor, including hand digging as needed. Some Saturday work is required; Sundays are rarely needed.
