Crane Operator (AMPES)
Medical/Physical Requirements
Candidates must pass a medical examination prior to appointment and thereafter, pursuant to requirements. Candidates must pass a drug screening to be appointed. Crane Operators (AMPES) are subject to random drug and alcohol testing during their employment.
Drug Testing Requirement
TWIC REQUIREMENT: Once selected for employment at the Staten Island Ferry, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. The TWIC must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment. For further program information, visit: here.

40 Hours; Monday-Friday
Qualification Requirements
- Four years of full-time experience acquired within the last fifteen years as a crane operator operating diesel, gasoline and electric powered cranes;
- Not less than three years of such experience acquired within the last ten years plus one year of additional full-time experience maintaining or repairing cranes.
Licenses Required
All candidates must possess a valid Hoisting Machine Operator's License (basic license) issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
